Day two of the conference focuses on justice, healing, and prevention. Experts will discuss cold case development, using forensic genealogy to solve unsolved cases. A survivor will share their powerful story, highlighting resilience and advocacy.

Welcome to the Preventing Sex Assault Crimes & Empowering Survivors Conference 2025!
Join us in person at Riverfront Banquet Center, 1 Riverfront Center W, Flint, Michigan, for a day of learning, empowerment, and community support. This conference aims to educate attendees on preventing sex assault crimes and providing support for survivors.

Our Mission
At Flint PD SAPPHIRES, our mission is to stand as a beacon of hope, healing, and justice for survivors of sexual violence. The meaning of S.A.P.P.H.I.R.E.S. is Standing Against Predators and Pedophiles Honoring Individual Rights while Empowering Survivors. We are committed to providing unwavering support, advocating for systemic change, and working relentlessly to prevent future harm. Through survivor-centered initiatives, education, and community partnerships.
We believe that true change begins with awareness, accountability, and action and strive to break the cycle of silence and create a safer, more just world for all. By testing unsubmitted kits, pursuing offenders, and amplifying survivor voices, we are not just addressing past injustices, we are actively shaping a future where sexual violence is no longer tolerated. Our work is fueled by the belief that every survivor deserves justice, every community deserves safety, and every individual has the power to make a difference.

How SAPPHIRES Continues to Advocate for Justice
The Flint Police Department's SAPPHIRES unit remains steadfast in its mission to combat sexual assault through comprehensive strategies:​
Enhanced Training and Education: By hosting annual conferences, such as the upcoming Preventing Sex Assault Crimes & Empowering Survivors Conference 2025, SAPPHIRES ensures that law enforcement and community professionals are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to address sexual assault effectively.
Community Engagement: SAPPHIRES actively participates in community outreach programs, fostering trust and encouraging survivors to come forward. Their involvement in events like the five-day conference focused on responses to sexual assaults and community violence exemplifies their commitment to collaboration.
Pursuit of Justice: With renewed funding from grants like SAKI (Sexual Assault Kit Initiative), SAPPHIRES continues to process untested sexual assault kits, ensuring that perpetrators are identified and prosecuted, thereby preventing future offenses.​
Through these concerted efforts, SAPPHIRES is dedicated to creating a safer environment in Flint, advocating for survivors, and holding offenders accountable.​
